Peso Pluma

Peso Pluma and his raspy vocals completely changed the game for música mexicana.

A corridos tumbados artist, Peso — born Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija on June 15, 1999 — blew up in early 2022 after joining forces with the Mexican American band Eslabon Armado for “Ella Baila Sola,” which reached Number One on Spotify’s Global chart and became the first música Mexicana song to crack the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Rolling Stone named it the best song of 2023.

Over the last two years, Guadalajara-born musician has racked top-notch collaborations, joining Bizarrap for “Bzrp Music Sessions Vol. 55,” Becky G on “Chanel,” Mexican reggaetonero Yng Lvcas on “La Bebé,” Kali Uchis on “Igual Que Un Ángel,” and Anitta on “Bellakeo.”

Peso dropped his debut album — including songs such as “Rosa Pastel” and “Lagunas” with Jasiel Nuñez, “Luna” with Junior H, and “Lady Gaga” with Gabito Ballesteros and Junior H — on June 22, 2023. The album debuted at Number Three on the Billboard 200, the highest for any música Mexicana song ever. Génesis also won a Grammy Award for Best Música Mexican Album.

Peso went on a Doble P tour in 2023, celebrating his album Génesis. He’s set to release a new album called Éxodo in 2024 and head on tour. — Tomás Mier
