When it comes to Father’s Day shopping, there are a few misconceptions and cliches to avoid. “Don’t think that you have to get dad something ‘expensive,'” says Mel Peralta, VP of Global Concepts of former world-renowned sneaker and streetwear boutique, atmos. “Honestly, dads don’t want you to go broke on Father’s Day.” Instead, he adds, “We want to build a memory built around our kid’s POV of us.”
Peralta’s suggestions: “Books and experiences,” he shares. “I’m an impatient guy and my schedule is always nuts. The two things I love are an amazing book and spending some fun time with the kids.”
“Think of the moments you’ve shared with your dad that just absolutely made him (and you) happy and hunt for gifts in that direction,” he continues. And one last thing to avoid: “That damn tie!” Peralta says. “Dad is viewed as ‘the man who has everything,’ so worry less about a physical ‘gift’ and think more about creating a moment with him. That memory will last longer than any item you can get him.”
