On Wednesday, many thousands of women and their allies in cities around the world took part in actions honoring International Women’s Day.
In the United States, women and trans and gender-nonconforming individuals participated in the “Day Without a Woman” general strike, donning red clothing and leaving their workplaces to join rallies and marches that focused on economic equality, resisting the Trump administration and other issues.
There were also large demonstrations everywhere from Ecuador to the Philippines to Poland. There were calls to support farmworkers in Mexico City and to eradicate violence against women in Madrid; in Tokyo, several hundred marchers came together to fight sexual harassment, among other things.
See how the world celebrated International Women’s Day – and stood up for women’s rights – below.
