Ivan Cornejo Announces New Album ‘Mirada’
After closing out his major Terapia Tour last year, rising star Ivan Cornejo is letting fans know that he has more in store for them: Rolling Stone can exclusively announce that the Mexican American artist will release his new album, Mirada, on July 18. The LP follows Dañado, which Cornejo released in 2022.
A trailer that Cornejo released alongside the album announcement captures the brooding, heartbroken vibe of the new project. The video shows Cornejo sitting in front of a fire, thinking back to a romantic relationship. A voice says to him, “Ivan, do you think you’ll ever fall in love again?” He responds, “I don’t want to,” as a flood of memories rush to him. “We always get to a point where it’s too late to avoid hurting ourselves — all because of a simple look,” he says at the end of the video.
“My new album represents an exciting evolution and growth of my musical journey,” Cornejo tells Rolling Stone. “Each track has a blend of my signature style but with a fresh sound that pushes the boundaries of my art.”
The album will be out the day of Cornejo’s 21st birthday. Along with the album announcement, Cornejo shares that he has even more performances in store for fans. He’ll be playing at Milwaukee’s Summerfest on July 6 and Quebec City’s Festival d’été on July 13. Both shows come just after he was a headliner at Sueños Festival this month in Chicago, and following his sold-out concert at the Rodeo Houston in March.
Cornejo dropped “Baby Please,” the first single from the project, in March. The acoustic ballad pushed his signature sad sierreño sound forward, adding new depth and some strings. Rolling Stone caught up with him before his sold-out show at the Palladium Times Square in September. “I’m grateful to have such a devoted fan base,” he said at the time. “It gets me every time I get up on that stage … To see thousands of people singing my music from all different races, cultures, and ages was one of the coolest and most thrilling things for me.”
