Shakira Reveals a Day in Her Life: Singing Along to Burna Boy and Watching ‘Friends’ Before Bed
A day in the life with Shakira might start with spraying some of her red perfume, cruising down the roads of Miami with Burna Boy on blast, and end with her watching an episode of Friends. During her Rolling Stone cover shoot, the Colombian star shared some favorite recommendations and gave some insight into her day-to-day life.
The singer described her music taste as “eclectic, honest, and real” and shared that she often likes listening to Afrobeats when she’s in the driver’s seat. “In my car, when I go out at night, I like anything Afrobeats,” she said. “I like Tyla, Burna Boy.”
Shakira also shared she’s currently reading the (very fittingly titled) self-help book Mujeres Que Corren con Lobos or Women Who Run with the Wolves by Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés. The 1989 book comprises several stories that provide a “fascinating mosaic of stories that offers us a new vision of the feminine and its possibilities,” according to a synopsis.
She also said she loves watching classics Friends, Seinfeld, and Curb Your Enthusiasm on TV. “Like every night I fall asleep to Friends or Seinfeld,” she admitted with a chuckle.
As for how she found her own personal style, Shakira had some wise advice: “It’s going to take time.” “Time is a great sculptor. It gets shaped to your dreams and to who you are. Be patient. You’ll find it,” she mused.
Shakira graces the cover of Rolling Stone‘s summer double issue, and in it, she speaks about healing from the end of her relationship with former soccer star Gerard Piqué. “When you leave a relationship of many years, there are things about yourself that seem to have been lost along the way,” Shakira said in the piece. “When that relationship breaks down, you feel like you’re left with nothing and you have to heal, search for yourself, and travel back toward the center of yourself.”
