‘Pod Save America’ Co-Host Jon Lovett to Compete on ‘Survivor’
Pod Save America co-host and former Obama speechwriter Jon Lovett will take a break from podcasting in order to brave the outdoors and forge alliances on the next season of Survivor.
The upcoming 47th (!) season of the reality competition was teased Wednesday night during the current season’s finale, and according to the Hollywood Reporter, among the hopefuls hitting the beach to survive Survivor was Lovett, whose participation was previously rumored but not confirmed until he appeared in the trailer:
“I have no outdoor skills. What am I doing here?” Lovett said, establishing himself as an underdog from the jump. “I went camping as a cub scout; I threw up and went home.”
While Survivor didn’t release the names of next season’s contestants, Lovett’s Pod Save America cohort Jon Favreau acknowledged his co-host’s presence on social media:
Lovett’s participation even came to the surprise of Ben Stiller, who responded to Favreau’s tweet, “Seriously? Wow.” Favreau added, “I know, it’s hard to believe because he’s so camera shy.”
This isn’t the first time Survivor has welcomed a crossover contestant: Back in 2018, before The White Lotus, that series’ writer-director Mike White — already a veteran of two seasons of The Amazing Race —competed on Survivor: David and Goliath, and ultimately finished in second place.
Season 47 of Survivor, which began filming in Fiji last week, will air on CBS in the fall.
