RuPaul’s New Memoir, ‘The House of Hidden Meanings’ Is Already No. 1 On Amazon — Here’s Where to Buy

RuPaul‘s highly anticipated new memoir The House of Hidden Meanings was announced back in October of 2023, but the queer icon’s tell-all has already skyrocketed to the top of on Amazon’s bestselling LGBTQ+ Biographies list ahead of its release.
With the release date and cover revealed late last year, Mama Ru’s revelatory memoir gives his fans a behind-the-scenes look into the first 40 years of his life — before he co-created Drag Race. Spanning 256 pages, The House of Hidden Meanings covers everything from RuPaul‘s early years growing up as a queer Black kid in San Diego, navigating his “complex relationship” with his absentee father and “temperamental” mother, to finding identity in the punk and drag scenes of Atlanta and New York, and accepting himself in his journey with sobriety.

“I’m so excited and so anxious at the same time because I reveal so much of myself,” RuPaul said a an Instagram video announcing the memoir last year. “This world today, it feels so hostile, and it’s such a scary place to be vulnerable in. But I did it. So get ready.” In the caption of the post, Ru wrote, “Writing this book left me gooped, gagged and stripped raw. I’ve learned that vulnerability is strength, but so far, all I feel is nervous as hell, yet super excited to share it with y’all. When all is said and done, it’s just me, Ru.”
While the introspective memoir also dives into the self-proclaimed “supermodel and supermogul”‘s road to fame, his Emmy-Award winning Drag Race franchise, and music career, the book as aims to be a “manual for living”. The book will focus on his personal philosophy about the value of chosen family, the importance of harnessing what makes you different, and facing yourself. “I’ve always loved to view the world with analytical eyes, examining what lies beneath the surface. Here, the focus is on my own life—as RuPaul Andre Charles,” says RuPaul.

This isn’t the first time RuPaul has shown off his writing skills or bore his soul down on the page. The House of Hidden Meanings marks Ru’s fourth book, coming off the heels of his 2018 self-help guidebook GuRu, his 2010 style guide Workin’ It!: RuPaul’s Guide to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Style, and his 1996 autobiography Lettin It All Hang Out.
