Pete Davidson Reckless Driving Charge Dismissed
Pete Davidson has scrubbed a reckless driving charge from his record after completing a diversion program months ahead of schedule.
On Thursday, Los Angeles County Judge Alexander C.D. Giza dismissed the single misdemeanor charge that was filed after the Saturday Night Live and Bupkis star crashed a Mercedes-Benz into a house in Beverly Hills in March 2023. Davidson, 30, had been ordered to complete 50 hours of community service, a safe driving course and visit both a hospital and morgue to confront the fatal consequences of risky choices. He finished the 18-month program six months ahead of the deadline.
Davidson’s lawyer, Mike Cavalluzzi, appeared by phone and said that because his client lives in New York, he completed a Mothers Against Drunk Driving victim impact program in place of the Los Angeles County Hospitals and Morgue program. “The terms of diversion have been completed, so there’s successful diversion, so the matter is dismissed,” Judge Giza ruled.
The court previously said it would allow Davidson to complete his community service with the New York City Fire Department. His firefighter dad, a member of Ladder Company 118 in Brooklyn Heights, died responding to the terror attack on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. A native of Staten Island, Davidson explored his grief linked to the loss of his father in the semi-autobiographical 2020 film The King of Staten Island.
Davidson was driving with ex-girlfriend Chase Sui Wonders when he crashed his car into the side of a house in the Flats neighborhood of Beverly Hills, TMZ first reported. Police said drugs and alcohol were not factors in the accident.
“We believe that Mr. Davidson engaged in reckless driving, which ultimately resulted in his involvement in a serious collision into a home,” the D.A.’s office told Rolling Stone in a statement last year. “Luckily, no one was seriously injured as a result of this collision. We know that reckless driving can have devastating consequences.”
