Waxahatchee Offers Glimpse Into Her Creative Process in ‘Tigers Blood’ Studio Footage
Waxahatchee‘s new video for “Tigers Blood” offers a fly-on-the-wall experience of Katie Crutchfield in the studio.
The clip opens with the songwriter recording Tigers Blood at Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas — where she also recorded 2020’s now-classic Saint Cloud — alongside producer Brad Cook.
“Check check, hello,” Crutchfield says in the accompanying voice note. “We’re here at Sonic Ranch again, Brad’s producing. It all feels really alive. The writing of the record is the thrill ride for me. It’s, like, the scary part. As a songwriter, you always feel on the brink of your last good idea. I always get a little depressed in the studio, and anxious. There are like, these big highs of like, ‘This is so surreal. We’re making this thing that I’m so excited about, and everything’s just falling completely into place. And then there’s these inexplicable lows of fear and anxiety and sadness that the work that really gives me life and gives me my sense of purpose … is done for now.”
Thursday marks the first day of Crutchfield’s Tigers Blood tour in Europe. She’ll return to the States next month, where she’ll kick off her trek in the States in Portland, Oregon, on Aug. 17.
“I felt really calm and at peace writing it,” Crutchfield recently told Rolling Stone about Tigers Blood, her sixth album as Waxahatchee. “It all came out really smoothly.”
