Mabel No Longer ‘Second Guesses’ Her ‘Female Intuition’
Mabel is learning to trust her gut. On Friday, the British pop singer released her single “Female Intuition,” which captures the star learning to trust her decision-making in life and in her art.
“It’s about trusting your instincts and letting your intuition be your guide,” she tells Rolling Stone. “I don’t second guess myself anymore, but it’s been a journey to get to this place, and I wanted to put that all into a track.”
The single is also indicative of the energy she’s tapping into on her upcoming third album, which she says captures her “being totally unfiltered” in her music and “tapping into all sides of myself.”
“I’m multicultural, and I’m inspired by so many different genres, and I’ve really felt free to express all of that over the last couple of years,” Mabel says. “‘Female Intuition’ was the catalyst for me really rediscovering power in my artistry again.”
“Female Intuition” follows a handful of singles from Mabel earlier this year, including “Look at My Body Pt. II,” which featured Shygirl in May, and “Zero” with Black Sherif back in February. Her first solo drop of the year, the sultry track “Vitamins,” heard her return to her R&B roots.
“It’s a reminder to the man I love to take care of himself but also that in difficult times I’ll always be there in his corner,” she said about that single, which she dedicated to her uncle David Cherry, who died while she made the track. “I felt him guiding me musically during the session to be braver and bolder with my songwriting.”
Mabel’s upcoming LP will mark her first full-length project since the electropop-filled album About Last Night…, which included songs such as hits “Let Them Know” and “I Wish” with Joel Corry.
