Big Sean Announces Album ‘Better Me Than You’ Following Leak
Skip the leaked version: Big Sean‘s new album Better Me Than You is dropping on Aug. 9. On Friday, a day after a Kanye West fan allegedly leaked much of his album online, Big Sean announced the release of his LP, and dropped a new single, “Yes.”
“The pressure of life (being a new Dad, being [an] artist that’s growing, being a human in development, etc) and embracing it all led me to a lot of clarity on what I needed to focus on to find a piece of happiness,” Sean wrote on X before the album announcement. “The past few years making this album have been a journey to say the least, but l’m just glad we finally here.”
The musician also shared a psychedelic, colorful trailer for the album as he announced the LP. “It’s been a journey,” he wrote. “I can’t wait to share with you all.” As for “Yes,” Sean shared on X, that the song was the “type shit u gotta run all the way thruu.”
The album announcement comes a day after Kanye West fan posted his entire album online, writing, “Since he wanna disrespect Ye so much, here’s the album. Fuck him and his whole team,” after Sean seemingly aimed a dig at West during a freestyle on On the Radar.
Better Me Than You will mark Sean’s first full-length album since 2020’s Detroit 2, which featured singles “Deep Reverence” and “Wolves.” He also released a collaborative LP with Hit-Boy, What You Expect, in 2021. Along with collaborations with Eminem and Jessie Reyez earlier this year, Sean dropped the single “Precision” in March.
Before entering the new era, Sean released a five-minute vlog where he described how he tried to center himself before recording new music. “When you take the time to put your attention on your intention, that’s the quickest way to get to where you desire to be at. Clarity is the bridge to that,” he said. “I’m just speaking from experience.” The vlog included clips of himself at the studio with friends including Tyler, the Creator.
